shorts_thumbOn Friday, November 9th the Arkansas Community Arts Cooperative (ACAC) will hold a “Show Your Shorts” night: a screening of several short films.  The event will be held at ACAC’s new arts and resource space at 1419 South Main Street in downtown Little Rock, Arkansas.

Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the event ends at 10:00 p.m.  Suggested donation for the event is $5.00.  Security and refreshments will be provided.

Calling all artists! - ACAC 6th Annual Holiday Art Show and Sale...

callflyerfullThe Arkansas Community Arts Cooperative is calling all artists to get your work included in the upcoming ACAC Holiday Art Sale.

The show will open Nov. 30 at the newly opened ACAC Space at 1419 Main St. in Downtown Little Rock, Arkansas.

Our last art sale this past April was a success for ACAC and many of the artists sold work, and now we’d like to see your work in this year’s show.

This past April, the art show/sale included more than 60 Arkansas artists whose media includes pottery, sculpture, sketches, paintings, and more. Over 300 people showed up to check out and buy art from some of the wonderful artists in this community.

All 2-D and 3-D work is welcome, film and performance artists encouraged to get in touch.

Due to our new space limitations and our renewed commitment to increasing our membership, ACAC is asking that anyone showing work in this year's show/sale become an official member of ACAC - the current membership dues are only $10.00 annually.

To be included, e-mail Corri Bristow: corribristow@yahoo.com (and cc: info@acacarkansas.org ) or call 501-749-3682.

Space is limited, so contact us today!

ACAC GETS A SPACE!

Grand Opening:

1010thumbOn Friday, October 12 the Arkansas Community Arts Cooperative (ACAC) holds the grand opening of its new art space at 1419 South Main Street in downtown Little Rock.  The opening of the new space is the culmination of several years of hard work by the ACAC, a non-profit organization that promotes the arts and music in the central Arkansas region.  The new downtown space will provide a venue for local artists to display their work as well as encourage art in the area by offering art workshops and other events to the local community.

To welcome in the new arts venue the ACAC will hold, “10 + 10: One Artist Invites Another,” featuring work from 20 of central Arkansas’ up and coming artists as well as a performance piece by Carey Voss and classical guitar by Joel Richardson.  Art work will be on display and for sale.  Artists that will be showing include Stephen Cefalo, Shae House, Brad Cushman, Hamid Ebrahimifar, Shelly Stewart, Ariston Jacks, Michael Worsham, John Kushmaul, Lydia Wahsburn, Matthew Lopas, Carey Voss, Erin Lorenzen, Carey Roberson, Dominique Simmons, Jerry Estil, Kathy Strause, and Shawn Sulac.  Refreshments will be provided.  Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the event ends at 10:00 p.m.  Suggested donation for the event is $ 5.00.

Help Us Move In:

6 years of hard work pays off. Noticing the lack of opportunities in the surrounding area, a group of people collaborated to form the Arkansas Community Arts Cooperative
(ACAC).

The ACAC is a non-profit organization which focuses on creating opportunities in the arts and community-based activities within the region. Our hope is to provide resources, education, and activities to local and newly-starting artists in the community who would otherwise not be exposed to them. Our immediate goal is to raise enough funds needed to acquire a community-accessible, community-controlled, space for art and music.

We are currently presented with the opportunity to rent a space on Main St. in the downtown area. While it is within our resources to do so, it will put a quick and sudden drain on our hard-won resources. The current delima is to meet the start-up costs of opening this space to the community. Workshops, theater, film screenings, poetry, gallery space, studio space, and other community arts usages are a few of the intended uses of the space. All of these would provide support and attention to our mission.

With all of these activities, it has become increasingly more difficult for our organization to move on to bigger activities especially when the majority of our fundraising is going into the community classes and activities. As you can see, we of the ACAC have the time and the energy to move onto more intense and impacting projects, but we just need the support from you. We are asking you to help support us and have an impact on the community around you.

All donations are tax deductible.  Send checks to ACAC; 1419 Main St.; Little Rock, AR 72202

7-6-07 - Halloween Cover bands needed for Great Halloween Cover-Up!

Attention all Central Arkansas bands who would be interested in participating in the ACAC Great Halloween Cover-Up.

The Great Halloween Cover-Up is a fundraiser for ACAC where bands do cover sets of another band, usually one that is a classic or something that everyone can sing along to.

The show this year is at Vino's on October 27th.  This will be the 5th year in a row that we have done the event.  Interest has grown each year.  This year we've already had several requests from bands wanting to be in the show.  To be as inclusive as possible, we're sending out this request for bands to contact us if they want to do a cover set at the show.

We're not going to be able to let everyone who sends in a request play the show.  We'll be looking at a variety of factors like how many people your idea will turn out and how it will fit in with the other bands on the bill, and of course creativity: the more theatrical and elaborate you can make your costumes and stage show will give you a leg up.

Note: bands do not get paid for this; it is a benefit for a 501(c)3 non-profit, the ACAC, which is putting the money we make into our mission, part of which is obtaining and maintaining a community-run space for art and music over the long-term.

Here is a list of the previous acts that have been done in years past:

American Princes as The Pixies (2003 and 2004)
Bru Records as A Tribe Called Quest (2003)
A Hard Luck Story as Minor Threat (2003)
Chow Quay as Devo (2004)
Kevin Kirby as Neil Young (2004)
Smerg (ad-hoc cover band) as The Germs (2004)
Johnny Mac And The Reds as The Police (2005)
Grand Serenade as Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers (2005)
The Thing That Always Explodes (and friends) as Black Sabbath (2005)
The Mondays (ad-hoc cover band) as The Sundays (2006)
Juggernaut Glitch as De La Soul (2006)
The Moving Front as The Cure (2006)
Appetite For Orange as The White Stripes (2006)

E-mail your band's proposal for what cover set you'd like to do to booking (at) acacarkansas (dot) org with as many details as possibe and we'll get back to everyone by August 1st, 2007.  See acacarkansas.org for more details.

Feel free to repost or forward this message around.
